Projects

Here is some information about my research projects in relation to meaning and meaningfulness of sport.

A full list of my research articles can be found in ResearchGate.

Sport as Craftsmanship

What is craftsmanship and why is it one promising concept for understanding meaningfulness in sport?

Sport and Ageing

We are finite beings, and when we no longer improve our athletic performance, we might need to rethink the meaning we assign to sport.

My work on ageing and sport started during my PhD project, and continued during my postdoctoral work at LJMU in 2017-2019.

Existential Learning

In “Learn2” project (2019-2021) I explored what else sport can teach youth athletes beyond life skills.

Running, Meaning and Identity

In the last century, running subculture transformed from the pursuit of a rare individuals to a highly popular sport-for-all. In our cultural imaginations, the runner is no longer a lonely and tragic figure, but a successful and productive citizen whose marathon record provides some extra social capital. In my work, I have explored what “being a runner” means for contemporary across cultures, ages and performance levels, and whether something existential or even spiritual is (still) involved the running experience – at least for some runners.

… I have also written about culture, gender, transnationalism, coaching philosophy, and a few other things. These projects and publications are available via ResearchGate.
